What you enter
Your equipment type, dimensions, additional-vehicle choice, required features, preferences, and shortlist are processed in browser memory. They are not sent to a matching server or written into page URLs. The matching tool does not ask for your name, email address, VIN, license plate, street address, or medical information.
Remembering is your choice
Until you choose Remember on this device, closing or reloading the page discards the current session’s profile and shortlist. When you opt in, a versioned record is stored in this browser on this device. Anyone with access to this browser profile may be able to read it.
Clear my data removes CampsiteCheck’s remembered record and resets the current profile, comparison, and shortlist. If browser storage is unavailable or blocked, you can continue using matching in memory.
Files you export or import
JSON backups contain the local profile and saved choices. CSV and print reports may contain your selected requirements and matching explanations along with public source information. They are generated locally. Decide who should see them before sharing. Clearing browser data does not delete files you already downloaded, printed, or backed up elsewhere.
Imports are validated locally for format, version, allowed fields, and size before being accepted. Importing does not upload the file to CampsiteCheck.
Public data still uses the network
The browser loads public pages, locally hosted fonts and scripts, a compact campground index, and selected campground data files from this site. The web server and its network infrastructure receive ordinary request information, including your IP address, browser information, and the requested public path. Requests for a campground file can reveal which campground you are viewing.
Technical request details may appear in server access or error logs. Keeping your matching profile in the browser does not make ordinary web requests anonymous. For questions about server logs or other request data, contact the administration.
Maps open only when you choose
Choosing Open map loads public campground locations from this site and map images from OpenStreetMap. Before you open a map, no map images or third-party map connections are requested. The map provider receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address, browser information, the site origin, and the map tiles you view. Those tiles reveal the geographic area being viewed.
Your equipment dimensions, required features, and saved profile are never sent to OpenStreetMap. The map does not request your device location. Campground pins come from the accepted RIDB coordinates; they do not mark individual campsites or confirm a suitable access route. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Official links leave this site
Following an official Recreation.gov or agency link opens that service under its own privacy practices. CampsiteCheck does not send your matching profile with the link. Fonts are served locally, and there are no tracking pixels.
Emailing the administration
If you choose to email the administration, your email provider and the receiving email service process that message. The administration receives your sender address and the content or attachments you send. Email is optional and separate from the matching tool; the site does not attach your saved profile to a message.
